It was the 90s and I was working at a great software company. The internet was on fire. We worked crazy hours. The company went public and pretty much everyone had equity in the form of stock options and ESPPs.
But the reality was that most of us didn’t have knowledge or experience with managing surplus cash or employer stock. Should we sell it? Should we reinvest it? Should we buy a house, a new car? Besides, we worked so much we didn’t have time to figure it out. And retirement was so far in the future…but then, suddenly it wasn’t.
Sound familiar? I’ve been there… I’ve been in your shoes.
I worked those long hours too! I spent 20+ years working for high-tech companies, so I know the feeling.
Back then, I decided to learn as much as I could about the benefits available to me… the wisdom of buying into my ESPP program, waiting it out when the stock dipped, diversifying my stock holdings, and understanding how stock proceeds were taxed. I shared my knowledge with friends and colleagues; I encouraged them to make smart financial decisions. Along the way, I discovered how much I loved sharing my knowledge and ideas about financial topics. I discovered that I thrived on helping people like you figure out how to handle these important financial questions.
I loved helping so much, I decided to go pro — and a new career as a fee-only financial planner was launched.
First, I went back to school to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM professional (the gold standard for financial advice) and learned about important financial planning topics such as insurance, taxes, investing, retirement strategies, and estate planning; I passed some pretty challenging exams, too!
I am an independent Registered Investment Advisor and fee-only fiduciary. I don’t sell any financial products; I only sell advice. If this sounds like what you’re looking for in an advisor, let’s talk!
